Introduction to Nickels Farms and Old School Guide Service

Old School Guide Service/Nickels Farms offers hunts for Trophy Whitetail Deer,  Wild Quail and Eastern Turkey.  Old School Guide Service/Nickels Farms is Very Proud of Their Conservation Methods. They have fenced off areas for natural habitat, created brush piles for escape cover and planted food plots of standing grain around cover areas. Come and experience the natural habit for some of the best hunting in the Midwest.

Habitat Practices

Since 1996 Nickels Farms has planted native grass buffer strips, developed over 50 annually planted food plots, Established over 30 new fields of native grass and forbs, implemented brush management on 12 farms, completed 3 pasture renovation/conversion projects to warm season grasses, added more farms to hunting area, opened a new hunting area adjacent to a Corp of Engineers wildlife area containing thousands of acres of natural habitat for game, and planted thousands of trees and shrubs.

The Nickels Family's efforts in Wildlife Habitat and Soil Conservation were first recognized in 1996 by the Soil Conservation Service, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, and the Jefferson County Bankers Association with the Wildlife Habitat Award for Kansas. To date Nickels Farms has provided service on three more farms that have receives this award.

In 2002 Nickels Farms was again recognized for their conservation and habitat practices, by the Kansas Farm Bureau, as one of the top 10 farms in the state by receiving the Natural Resource Conservation Award for District I.  Nickels Farms welcomes hunters, landowners and the public to contact us to take a tour of our farms.

Mike Nickels is a third generation native to Jefferson County, KS and his family's roots are deep in the hunting tradition. His grandfather served on the first Conservation Board in the county and Mike's father was an avid outdoorsman and gun collector.
